The baby didn’t fall asleep until 3 am last night. Why do nights like that always follow beautiful, positive posts I write the day before? It’s like the universe is trying to erase my good mood.
As a result, I’m a walking zombie.
I spent the morning trying to motivate myself to do something. Anything. I knew I couldn’t go back to bed after getting my daughter ready for school, and I knew that I didn’t want to make any noise since the baby was finally sleeping after being up all night. So, I sat on the couch doing nothing while Kyle watched TV. Some days you just have to do that.
When I did finally decide to get up and get ready to go, I slipped into the bathroom while the boys were seemingly entertained by Elmo.
As I’m sitting there trying to have a moment of peace, I hear, “Hello?” “Meredith?”
Confused, I sit there stunned. “Did someone just say my name?”
I quickly finish up (can’t a girl just get a moment in the bathroom without some interruption?) and run into the living room to discover that my toddler has somehow managed to dial a number from our caller ID. Mommy fail.
I grab the phone….”Who is this?”
It was a sweet girl from church who I barely know. The fact that she was on my caller ID was because she called me several weeks ago (I don’t get many calls ok?) about something related to my daughter’s class at church. She is her teacher.
“I’m so sorry”, I say. “I don’t know how he did that!” I do. I let him play with the phone. That’s how he did that. “Well, since you’re on the phone, how are you?”, I say. lame. She chuckles, “Good. But, I’m at work.” “Oh, ok. Again, I’m so sorry. Will I see you tonight at the church activity?” Ugh. I feel so ridiculous right now. “Yeah, I’ll be there for a little bit”, she says. “Great! I’ll try to catch you then.”, I say in my most cheery voice.
I have turned into that Mom. I’m sure she thinks I’m a complete idiot and I’m just letting my kids run rampant and do their own thing. Which I basically was. I mean, I have to pee at some point in the day right? At least he didn’t call 911 and the Fire Department was knocking on my door.
I just wanted to get my floors mopped today. Instead, I spent the day at the doctors office to be told “It’s just a virus”. And, then spent 2 hours trying to get both boys to nap. Now, they’re sleeping way too late in the day, and we were all brought to tears (including myself) to make it happen.
Now, let’s see if I can force myself to be in a good mood to attend my church activity tonight. Fake it till I make it. Right?
My sister in law was 8 when my husband and I got married. She once called 911 27 times in under a minute ‘to see what would happen’. Can you guess what happened? Luckily the (small town) cop found it amusing when he arrived.
Oh my gosh!!! Hilarious!
There was a house full of adults at the time. ;). sure it’s funny NOW! LoL
