In the car today, I heard Kyle speaking in his I’m-telling-you-a-scary-story-voice. So, of course I tuned into the kid banter that I usually am trying to tune out during car rides.
It was something along the lines of there was something made out of ice cream. But, no one wanted to eat it because it had coffee in it. Sounds scary huh? The best part of his scary story telling is his voice. He gets real low and soft and dramatic. And, the stories usually involve something he can see outside from the car window. They evolve as we drive around. And once, there was a giant snow cone, and it liked to eat people, then a blue truck ran over it, and it came back to life and went into the grocery store.
So, since I can’t remember the ice cream one, I asked him just now to tell me another one. You’re welcome.
Here’s a scary story from the mind of a 4 year old. “Once there was a spooky forest and a witch lived in it. And, she found a ghost. And it got killed but it came back alive over and over again. A tree came alive and he was good outside, and he was bad inside. He killed the witch but she came back alive over again. And that happened to the tree too. The end.”
I know you’re terrified.
You know what scares me? The thought of leaving something at the grocery store accidentally after I’ve paid and having to go back and pick it up with three kids in tow. Just as I got the kids in the car after a typical crazy long grocery store trip with all three (I can’t wait until school starts up just for this reason alone), I got in the car, started driving and realized, “Crap! I forgot my deli meat! I never picked it up after ordering it.” I was thankful I was still in the parking lot this time instead of at home where the realization usually hits me.
So, I parked again, got all three kids out, walked inside, and remembered that I did, in fact, pick it up. My kids found this behavior very amusing.
My 4-year-old told me that I’m “always forgetting stuff”.
I’m also scared of the amount of apples that hit my house/deck/yard violently at night. My blogger friend, Don was right. The apple tree was charming at first. But, now, not so much. I am frequently being startled from a dead sleep thinking, “What was that!?” only to remember that I have an apple tree, and 432 apples fall from it in a 24 hour period. And hard. Violently. Like, I’m scared for my children that play outside.
The end. (I hope you can sleep tonight)
The thing that scares me? Other people and interviews.
I’m hiding in my closet until Nathan comes home.
This post is hilarious. I really enjoy your blog.
