Whether you’re planning a Valentine’s party, or an emoji themed birthday party, this heart eyes emoji cookies recipe is so much fun.
I think you’re either an emoji person, or you’re not, and I’m definitely an emoji person. My brother hates emojis so I like to torture him by using as many in my text messages as possible.
To be honest, I’m still stuck in the trend of using the crying laughing emoji even though it’s totally out according to people younger than me.
That’s OK – I’m confident in my emoji game, which is why I’m super excited to bring this heart eyes emoji cookies recipe to life.
So, before we dive into cookie making, what does the heart eyes emoji mean?
Well, LOVE of course. But, it doesn’t have to be romantic love for Valentine’s day, it can just mean that you love what someone is saying, you think their dog is cute, or you love that your husband is going to put the kids to bed for you. The heart eyes emoji is really that versatile!
Honestly, behind the cry laughing emoji, it’s probably my second favorite.
Usually, I would be intimidated to use fondant, but this heart eyes emoji cookies recipe makes it easy with this secret.

Did you know that ready made fondant was a thing?
Yeah – me either. Once I found out, I decided I could try using it and see how it turned out. You can buy it anywhere – even on Amazon! And it comes in all kinds of different colors making emoji cookies easy peasy.
I’ve always heard that making fondant was an absolute nightmare, so I’ve always stayed away from fondant recipes. But, these heart eyes emoji cookies can totally work with ready made fondant so that you’re literally cutting fondant into shapes.
It’s more of an edible art project if I’m being totally honest. Just some cutting and pasting it all together. Ha!
Cookies Decorated With Heart Eyes Emojis would make the perfect Valentine’s Day treat
Imagine using these emoji cookies for treats in a classroom party, or in cute cellophane bags for a valentine’s party at home! They would even be adorable laid out on a tray on a table as part of your Valentine’s Day decor. But, if you really love all things emojis you could even use these heart eyes cookies for an emoji themed birthday party, too.
I would love to try my hand at making several different versions of emojis, not just the heart eye emojis cookie recipe.
One day, I may even get my act together and make some heart eyes emoji cookies for my kids to have in their school lunches when it falls on Valentine’s day. A mom can dream, right?
You’ll need some tools to make this heart eyes emoji cookies recipe
As with most things in life, when you have the right tools to make something, it goes so much easier. So much of my life, I spend winging it, but my husband tells me if you have the right “gear” then it always makes the thing you’re doing more enjoyable. I think he’s talking about outdoor adventures and not baking emoji cookies but that’s beside the point.
So what tools do you need to make these perfectly round emoji sugar cookies?
Personally, I don’t think these heart eyes emoji cookies are as cute if they’re not perfectly round. And, if you buy the right cookie cutter that’s sharp, you can use it for both your fondant and your cookie dough! I like this set for making biscuits or cutting round cookies perfectly.
Since it’s a high quality round cookie cutter made of stainless steel, you’ll be able to cut the fondant perfectly too!
Here are some more tools you’ll want to use for making these heart eyes cookies:
How to make this incredibly cute heart eyes emoji cookies recipe
Now that you’ve got all the right tools, it’s as simple as putting together these emoji cookies in minutes.
First, the ingredients for these heart eyes cookies:
One dozen of your favorite sugar cookies, cut into circles about 2 inches in diameter
4 oz. yellow ready made fondant
2-3 oz. black ready made fondant
Instruction for making heart eyes emoji cookies
Before you decorate, ensure that all of your cookies are cool to touch.
Roll out your yellow fondant so that it’s about ¼ of an inch thick. With the same cookie cutter you used for your cookies, cut out 12 circles.
Press a yellow fondant piece on each cookie.
Roll out your black fondant so that it’s about ¼ of an inch thick. With a circle cookie cutter about 1 inch in diameter, cut out 6 pieces.
Using a butterknife, cut off 2 pieces from each black circle, each with a rounded edge. These will act as your cookie’s smiles.
Press one fondant smile onto each cookie.
Using Wilton tip #5, frost out two hearts with your red decorating frosting. I didn’t want to use fondant on this part because it seemed too hard to shape perfect hearts. So I found doing a free hand heart for each eye with the red decorating frosting was just easier.
Another great idea for these cookies is to drop them off to the elderly in your neighborhood – especially the widows and widowers! We did that one year, and it was such a special treat to make them feel loved on Valentine’s day.
Whether you’re making these for a Valentine’s party, or birthday party, I hope you love them, even though they’re almost too cute to eat!
